About Us – The New Wilder Mann

The Wilder Mann is more than just a building – it is a living piece of local history.
For over 150 years, it has shaped the heart of Obrigheim like no other place. Its roots go back to 1858, when Philipp Eckert purchased the property and opened the first tavern in 1860.
Very quickly, the Wilder Mann became the town’s social center – a place where people gathered, celebrated, and created memories.
Over the decades, the house continued to grow. In 1907, the small tavern expanded into a guesthouse.

During the 1940s and especially the 1960s, under Josef Waibel and later Richard Waibel, the building evolved into something remarkable. Richard Waibel purchased surrounding farm buildings, modernized the entire site, and transformed the Wilder Mann into a large hotel and hospitality complex featuring:
 • around 40 hotel rooms
 • a pool
 • a sauna
 • an in-house butcher’s shop with its own slaughterhouse
 • and a large restaurant with 150 seats

The famous regulars’ table (“Stammtisch”) became a local institution and the beating heart of village life for generations.

In the early 2000s, Waibel handed over the entire establishment to his long-time apprentice Hartmut Raudenbusch, who continued running the hotel, butcher shop, and restaurant.
Over time, however, the building aged and faced the question of how to move forward.

A New Era – Where Tradition Meets Modern Living

In 2025, a new chapter began for us – a family of entrepreneurs from the region.
We saw the immense potential of this historical site as well as the responsibility that comes with preserving and modernizing it. The building’s structure was solid, but much of it was outdated. We therefore began a complete renovation of the former hotel and spa areas.

The result:
• 14 high-quality long-term apartments
• 11 modern short-stay rental apartments

Every unit was fully modernized with a strong focus on digital check-in, self-service processes, and a clean, comfortable living environment.

Our mission: Effortless, modern accommodation at fair prices – without sacrificing the character of this historic house.
The Wilder Mann has now become a contemporary mixed-use building, combining residential living with efficient, automated hospitality tailored to today’s needs.
